Spanish Violence, Threats and Repression Before Possible Catalan Independence Declaration Today
After police violence against voters during the referendum, Nazi salutes and attacks against pro-independence Catalans in Barcelona and Valencia over the last two days, yesterday the Spanish government when their spokesperson person, Pablo Casado, alluding to the Catalan president Lluís Companys who declared Catalan independence in 1934 and was shot by a Francoist firing squad in 1940. There is speculation that Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont, will declare independence today. If so the Spanish government will invoke article 155 of the Spanish Constitution and suspend the Catalan autonomy. What will happen after that is impossible to say but one thing I’m sure of is that the shit is about to hit the fan.
